I went to my first yoga class in 1998 and have been hooked ever since.
Iyengar was my introduction to yoga and still heavily influences my classes although they constatntly evolve with my own development.
I still like to focus on correct, safe alignment within the poses and believe this is important before moving on to faster paced styles of yoga.
I always spend time working with movement and the breath and each class has time to end with relaxation or meditation.
Pranayama (breath control) is an integral and often overlooked part of yoga which I incorporate in my classes sometimes with Yoga Nidra or other deeply relaxing transformational practices.
I currently run two weekly classes, one class in Peckham Rye and the other at the Honor Oak Wellness Rooms and a monthly wellbeing workshop for HCA International.
My 'day job' is 3 days a week as a complementary therapist working in a cancer centre in central London and the rest of the week providing home treatments in my local community in South East London. Most of the treatments I give are manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) for patients who have undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery for cancer. I use yogic breathing techniques to help these patients relax and learn to breath correctly during difficult medical regimes. Stress is a major precursor to many illnesses and yoga gives the tools to prevent the creation of imbalances and illness in the first place. It also assists people in how to best live with illness if already manifest.
I completed my 2 year BWY 500 hour teacher training in 2014 whilst pregnant with my second child. It was challenging and hugely rewarding as is continuing to teach with a young family in tow!
I have recently gained my Yoga Nidra teacher training certificate with the Satyananda Yoga Centre in London and really enjoy incorporating Yoga Nidra in my classes. It is such a valuable tool in managing stress and for self transformation and I can see this in the faces of my students at the end of class!
I love teaching yoga and have enjoyed seeing my students progressing over the last 3 years. My journey continues with theirs.
